The Arts Club’s Members Exhibition is a longstanding tradition that brings great pride and prestige to the institution and its membership. Following an exhibition of paintings by John Singer Sargent, the second exhibition ever mounted at The Arts Club was of work by our members in the year of our founding, 1916. Although its structure has changed over the past 105 years, the ethos of the Members Exhibition remains the same: to celebrate and present the artistic activities of our Visual Artist members across a range of media, styles, genres, and forms. Visitors routinely remark that the organization of the exhibition (or, perhaps more accurately, lack of categorical, historical, or thematic organization) liberates the artworks from a prescriptive viewing experience. The organizing force is purely the high standard of work that we are proud to exhibit, hung alphabetically in a nod to the Salon culture upon which the institution was founded.
